Mission
The Chamber of Commerce Niagara Falls, Canada is the voice of the Niagara Falls business community, leading and facilitating a business environment that is focused on a sustainable economy.

Like the falls, the Chamber of Commerce Niagara Falls, Canada strives to be a powerful and recognized organization working to make Niagara Falls the best place in Canada to do business, work, live and play in a rapidly changing business environment.

SAVING YOU TIME AND MONEY

 

  • Encouraged the City of Niagara Falls to reconsider their proposed Water and Sewer Rate Structure changes
  • Lobbied the regional government to put a 3-year moratorium on industrial development charges to encourage new industrial development and jobs
  • Lobbied the provincial government to review commercial and industrial property tax assessment so a more equitable property tax system can be established
  • Lobbied regional and municipal government to lower high industrial tax rates
  • Lobbied the municipal government to lower water and sewer rates for industry
  • Providing exporters with document certification (Certificates of Origin)
  • Providing affordable group insurance and attractive VISA and MasterCard merchant discounts to member businesses

 

HELPING BUSINESS AND THE ECONOMY GROW

 

  •  Encouraging the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and GO Transit to work together to make it possible for GO trains to cross the canal
  • Encouraging the Regional Municipality of Niagara to find solutions to proposed increases to Water and Sewer Rates
  • Encouraged the provincial government to reduce the PST portion of the new HST to provide for a 10% HST vs. 13%
  • Encouraged the federal government to adopt a border management strategy to ease the flow of goods and people
  • Encouraged the federal government to develop a better rapport with the United States
  • Founded the Niagara Smart Border Coalition, a partnership of Niagara’s Chambers of Commerce, business leaders and tourism partners with a goal of maintaining the free flow of goods, people and services between Niagara and the United States
  • Founding partner of the Easy Crossing Council developed to promote the ease of crossing the border
  • Lobbied the US government to maintain the status quo of a birth certificate or driver’s license rather than a passport requirement being implemented.  In the alternative a border crossing card be developed which is offered at an affordable cost with limited waiting time in facilities readily available to U.S. citizens
  • Developing network opportunities for our member businesses through our successful Business After Five program and speakers at breakfast and lunch special events
  • Providing access to high profile speakers such as Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism; Jim Pattison, Ripley’s Entertainment; Tim Hudak, Leader of the Opposition; Monique Smith, Minister of Tourism; Michael Ignatieff,  Leader of the Official Opposition, Minister of Finance, Jim Flaherty; Aron Gampel, Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Scotia Economics; Peter Fonseca, Minister of Tourism; United States of America Ambassador to Canada, David Wilkins; Premier Dalton McGuinty; Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism and Recreation; Stan Keyes, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Sport); Nancy Hughes Anthony, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce; Tim Hudak, Minister of Tourism and Recreation; Rick Egelton, Senior Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist, Bank of Montreal; Jim Wilson, Minister of Energy, Science & Technology

  • Recognizing and honouring local small and large businesses and community leaders through our annual Outstanding Business Achievement Awards event
  • Helping to prepare a skilled workforce by offering scholarships to one student at each Niagara Falls secondary school annually

 

HELPING OUR COMMUNITY GROW

 

  •  Communicated the findings of a membership survey to Dr. Kitts, the person charged with reviewing the Niagara Health System, Hospital Improvement Plan, opposing the proposal by the NHS to regionalize services
  • Playing an active role in federal, provincial and municipal elections through participation in debates and surveys to help the business community and general public make informed voting decisions
  • Lobbied for upgrades to Greater Niagara General Hospital Emergency Room
  • Supporting the improvement of health care services such as the development of a regional cancer centre and cardiac cath lab
  • Lobbied the provincial government to provide funding for cardiac rehab in Niagara similar to funding provided in 23 Ontario communities
  • Lobbied for economic development infrastructure like expansion of the Queen Elizabeth Way, upgraded VIA Rail service between Niagara Falls and Toronto, GO Transit, and expansion of Highway 406 to Port Colborne
